In the summer, sometimes the long days mean a sugar craving doesn't hit until long after many bakeries and restaurants are closed. Here are some spots around south and west St. Louis County where you can still get your sugar fix after 9pm.

Fritz's Frozen Custard

815 Meramec Station Road, Valley Park, MO 63088

St. Louis City has Ted Drewe's and in the county, we have Fritz's. Which is better is up to you! Personally, I love their Cookie Monster flavor: chocolate ice cream, Oreos, and cookie dough, though their claim to fame is the famous Turtle sundae. You can't go wrong!

Open until 10:30pm on weeknights and 11pm Fridays and Saturdays.

Clementine's Naughty & Nice Ice Cream

13426 Clayton Rd, Des Peres, MO 63131

At Clementine's you can get scoops of ice cream in a cup or delicious waffle cone, usually in flavors that aren't what you find in the grocery store (though now many Schnucks stores are carrying pints of Clementine's permanent flavors, always a good alternative if you want to have the late-night ice cream experience without driving and waiting in line). The Naughty flavors are a proprietary process that blends alcohol into the ice cream. While Gooey Butter Cake is their most popular flavor, I heartily recommend the Salted Cracker Caramel as well!

Open until 10:00pm on weeknights and 11pm Fridays and Saturdays.

Fenton Olde Town Donuts

67 Fenton Plaza, Fenton, MO 63026

If ice cream isn't what you're craving, Olde Town Donuts is your ultimate late-night treat. Open early in the morning AND late at night, you can get a fresh donut nearly any time of the day. My favorite is a glazed cinnamon twist (or cinnamon pretzel -- same donut, different shape) and my kids will always go for anything with sprinkles. There's no wrong answer!

Open weekdays 4am-1:30pm and 8-midnight. Open Saturdays and Sundays 4am-midnight.
